Write a poem, they said
It will lift your soul
From the depth of despair
Your hell is harrowing
Only your soul can save you
Pour it out in verses, they said
You will be free
From the endless mute pursuit
For this and that
Things that cannot be touched
Write a poem, they said
And you will not miss the setting sun
That has dazzled your childhood
Write a poem, they said
And you will not miss
the gushing waters of Phiphidi Waterfall
Write a poem, they said
And you will not miss
Your whistling old man walking home
Write a poem, they said
For the day you cannot write no more
Poems are written, but the pursuit continues
(for Murena 'Lord' Mawela)
